Jodhpur Sights and Landmarks Guide, India
The Sun City of India, Jodhpur, is a happening tourist location due to its contribution to Indian History and due to the manner in which the city is built. It is famous for the mix of Indian culture and the modern India. Jodhpur is part of Rajasthan and hence it becomes much easier for the tourists to visit Jodhpur as Rajasthan is one of the hottest tourist spots in India.
Mehrangarh Fort is the most famous tourist attraction in the city of Jodhpur and almost every tourist that hits Jodhpur visits this fort at least once. This fort happens to be the largest when compared to all the forts in the state of Rajasthan. This fort was built somewhere in the year of 1458 (the year when the foundation for this was laid down) by Rao Jodha, the Rajput Emperor. He built this fort right on the center of the city and slowly the city of Jodhpur started to grow around this fort.
The most majestic thing about this fort is that in its 500 years of lifetime never was this fort conquered by force as it is built right on the top of a hill and leaves no ground for enemies to even place their foot on the hilltop. Although, one might think this fort is like other forts, the actual size of this fort can actually leave many tourists wondering about what Rao Jodha was targeting when he got this fort built.
The fort houses the famous Sheesh Mahal (the Mirror Hall), Moti Mahal (the Pearl Hall which is decorated with colored glasses and this was the place where the Maharaja used to talk with his audience), Zenana Deodi (special zone for Maharaja’s Wives), Phool Mahal (the flower hall which comprises of loads of flowers), and the Chamunda Mataji Temple (this temple was built by Rao Jodha for his personal prayers from the goddess that he used to follow).
The other historical sites of Jodhpur are places like Mandore which is located around 7 kilometers from the city of Jodhpur and was the capital of ancient state Marwar before Jodhpur got this status, Jaswant Thanda is a place worth visiting due to its location which is next to a beautiful lake and Umaid Bhavan palace.
