Gwalior is one of those cities of India which have played an important part in shaping the culture as well as the history of India. With a population of over 12 lakh, the city of Gwalior is located around 120 kilometers from the very famous city of Taj Mahal, Agra. This is the reason why tourists get attracted towards the city as almost every tourists visits Taj Mahal and visiting the other cities in its proximity is always on the priority list.
There are many tourist hot spots in the city which reflect the history of India. The Gwalior Fort is the most famous tourist attraction of the city and it is also the most important monument for the city. A very steep road will take you up towards the fort and in the pathway you will see many statues of those who have lived in this fort. This fort has faced many battles, bloodsheds, and empires in last many centuries. This fort is considered as one of the best forts of India and it is also known by the name of Johar Tower.
Sun City is one of the few newly built tourist attractions of Gwalior. It is one of the biggest amusement parks in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It houses numerous dhaaba (the Indian version of restaurants which serve local food), cafes, hotels, and various rides for kids as well as for elders to cherish. The statue of Bhagvan Parshawnath on a Lotus (all of which was carved from one piece of rock) is housed in this temple itself. This statue is around 30 feet in width and around 50 feet in height.
Another famous tourist attraction is Man Mandir Palace. The construction work for this palace started in the year 1486 and continued till 1517. It was built by the famous ruler Babur. The brutal Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his brother here in this palace itself. Later on he executed him in this very palace.
Some other tourist hot spots for this city are Gurudwara Data Bandhi Chhod, Gujari Mahal, Sun Temple, Jai Vilas Palace and Museum, Dindayal City Mall, and Sarod Ghar.
