Guntur can be divided into two parts. The old city which is said to be the original historical city of Guntur and the new city which is now facing all kinds of modern developments. Guntur is exactly 1000 miles away from the capital India and it is recommended that one uses air transport if he / she plans to visit Guntur. This historical city has many monuments which are enough to attract tourists. Slowly the tourism industry is become an important part of the economy of Guntur.
Guntur downtown is a famous hot spot amongst the tourists due to its modern culture. This part of Guntur has many parks, an archeological museum, Jinnah - Naaz center, and the famous Brodi - Arundel. There are many other landmarks one can visit when he is in the downtown area of Guntur. Actually, it’s the downtown area considered to be the new city of Guntur.
Another hot spot for tourists is the Uppalapadu Nature Conservation, which is a bird sanctuary, located around 4 miles south from the center of the city. Birds like Spotted Pelicans, Painted Storks, and many other endangered plus famous species of birds arrive in this region to utilize the natural facilities. The region has many water tanks which are the main spots where birds stop. In past years around 12000 birds used to stay on these tanks but now the number has come down to 7000 birds.
Undavalli Caves are another historical and famous hot spot in Guntur. They are caves of the medieval India and located around 15 miles east of the main city of Guntur. These caves are situated on the urban district of Guntur. These caves also have a huge statue of Lord Vishnu and it is said that they were built somewhere in the 4th and the 5th century.
Prakasam Barrage is located around 18 miles east of the city of Guntur and is another famous place which can be visited by the tourists. It is actually a bridge which is situated in the district of Guntur. This bridge connects Krishna to GNT and is built over the Krishna River.
Some more famous tourism sights in and around the city of Guntur are Viswa Nagar, Bhattiprolu, Amarvathi, Kondaveedu, Kotappakonda, Chebrolu, Sitanagaram, and Ponnur.
