Gorakhpur is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Gorakhpur is one of those cities of India which lie in the proximity of the Nepal Border. One should note that India and Nepal have a open border which means that there aren’t any serious security checks when you pass the India - Nepal Border and you don’t even need to have a passport / visa for crossing the border. Gorakhpur is said to have received its name from the saint who was responsible for the construction of this temple.
Another famous tourist spot of Gorakhpur is the Madina Masjid (a mosque) situated on the very busy Reti Road. Muslims regularly flock the Masjid for their prayers and tourists visit this Masjid for its awesome design.
One more famous temple of Gorakhpur is Lehra Devi Mandir which is located on Sanuli Gorakhpur Road. Some other famous temples of Gorakhpur are: Tarkulha Devi Mandir, Bhudiya Maai Mandir, Gita Vatika Mandir.
Gorakhpur has played an important role in the shaping of India History and many major religions of India (remember that India is a multi - religious country) like Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and of the Sikhism.
The most famous poet of historical years for India was Kabir (from 1440 to 1518) and he is documented to have lived in a village called Maghar which is around 20 kilometers from the city of Gorakhpur. His poems have been collected and stored in the museum as well as the library of Gorakhpur thus attracting huge number of tourists.
The headquarters of Gita Press (one of the best Indian Publications for religious books) is also located in Gorakhpur. Tourists are permitted to visit this office if they request the authorities.
