Faridabad Travel Guide, India

Faridabad is an important industrial hub for India and it is located in the Haryana (a State in North India). The cornerstone for this city was laid somewhere in the year 1607 by Jahangir’s Treasurer, Shaikh Farid. The main objective of creative this city was to protect the highway which used to pass through that area during those days. A city was created around the highway so that miscreants cannot affect the highway in any manner. Shaikh Farid also built a tank, a huge fort, and a mosque too but as of now all these historical monuments are just part of papers and only the remains of these historical monuments are remaining.

Faridabad is situated around 25 kilometers from New Delhi. The state of Uttar Pradesh surrounds the city from South and east, the National Capital Territory of India lies on its north, and the District of Gurgaon surrounds the city of Faridabad from west. As of now Faridabad is the most populous city of Haryana and a study proved that around half of the total tax of Haryana is collected from Gurgaon and Faridabad only.

The current population of Faridabad (as per the consensus of year 2001) is over 1,000,000 inhabitants. Out of these around 70 percent are literate while the national literacy rate is around 60 percent. This proves that due to the industrial region of Faridabad this city has higher literacy rate than the rest of the country.

The western section of this city was given for people who migrated from Pakistan after the partition of India. This was done after India got its independence in the year of 1947. Slowly this land got the status of New Industrial Town (NIT in short). Same is the reason that most of the inhabitants of this region have their roots from Pakistan and not India.

The economy of Faridabad relies on Agriculture (which happens to be an important industry of India), Manufacturing, and government offices. These government offices have increased the importance of Faridabad as this has increased the political importance of this city.
