Chennai Nightlife, India

You can blame it on the bustling ports and the fast-rising trend of outsourcing, but Chennai is basically teeming with life even at night. There are just too many things that you can possibly do that there’s a huge possibility that you don’t get stuck at one place alone.

Where to spend the quietest evening

For nature lovers or for people who are looking for great alternatives to noisy and overcrowded bars and pubs, the Chennai beaches, such as the Elliots Beach, can provide you a sanctuary. The place is almost deserted, with no trace of throngs and large Indian and tourist groups, as well as beggars. You can stay at the beach until 1 o’clock in the morning. You can also spot some fisherfolks who are more than willing to take you on a boat ride for a very small fee.

While you’re there, don’t forget to try out dhabas. These are actually local restaurants in India. They are normally open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Foods are very cheap, especially the Punjabi meals. Nevertheless, there are still Western-style foods in the area, such as the Dominoes Pizza.

Where to dance in Chennai

The main city is filled with several bars, nightclubs, lounges, and pool parlors. Music played is normally of Western origin, and servers would usually provide cocktails and beers to guests and partygoers. You will seldom see any local or foreigner on their seats once the DJ starts to spin the discs, and the lights change to Technicolor. Some good examples of bars to go to are those you can find in Residency Towers Hotel, Zaara’s, Dublin, Geoffrey’s, and Durrents.

You may also spend a portion of your night for some good meals in cafes and restaurants. However, make sure that you don’t get to waste a lot of your time in these places, as they are normally closed by midnight. You must also don’t forget to ask clubs if they require membership. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to get in.

Spreading the culture of Chennai

Indians are known for their great love for their culture and heritage. To celebrate traditions and customs, there are theatrical performances that you can watch. But you have to be extremely vigilant as they would commonly change venues even without prior notice. If you have not checked any theatrical schedule but would love to watch one anyway, try checking out the cultural centers, theaters, and auditoriums in the city.
