Altstadter Nikolaichirche. The Nikolai Church is located not far from the Old Market Square. This is considered as Bielefeld’s oldest church dating back from the 13th century. The church has Gothic styles and is carved with 250 figures in scenes from biblical stories.

Museums and galleries in Bielefeld are known for taking part in the yearly event “Nachtansichten” which happens every April. The 11 museums found in the town, on the other hand, offer an abounding year round program of permanent and special exhibitions.

Kunsthalle Bielefeld. This museum formally opened in 1968 exhibiting international art of the 20th century. It was constructed by the New York architect and art historian Philip Johnson. Examples of artwork displays found in Kunsthalle are Expressionist masterpieces and Cubist sculptures.

Bauernhaus Museum. Known to tourists as Farmhouse Museum, this was constructed in 1917. It is the oldest farmhouse museum. It received an award of a special commendation in the 2001 European Museum of the Year Awards.
