This city is located on the western part of Great Rift Valley and is also part of Semien Ono Zone which is located in Southern Nations, Nationalities, & People’s Region of Ethopia. It is located around 500 kilometers away from Addis Ababa.

Arba Mintch consists of residential and commercial areas of Sikela and the administrative center that is part of Shecha. These two regions of Arba Mintch are connected by paved roads. The city has two lakes on its two sides namely Lake Chamo (to the south) and Lake Abaya (to the north). These two downtown and uptown parts of Arba Mintch are connected with each other via taxis and buses although both regions have their own set of schools for the residents.
