Quito History, Ecuador

The History of the city is said to have started in the first millennium. During its early years the famous Quito tribe used to live in this land and they were using this land as an important commercial hub. It was the year 980 A.D. when the foundation of the kingdom of Quito was made by the Caras Tribe. In 1462 the Incas tribe successfully took the control of the Quito Kingdom. It was the year 1533 when the ruler of this city burned it totally so that the approaching Spanish Army wouldn’t be able to conquer it. Although he succeeded in what he wanted to do, he did destroy most of the proofs which could have helped the historians of today.

It was the year 1534 when the Spanish were finally able to take control of this city and named it Santiago de Quito. In the same year this city experienced a name change and the city name was changed to San Francisco de Quito. After few months the city was moved to another location which is actually the current location. It was 204 settlers who were the first to move to this new location and they were the major reason why the complete city could be successfully moved to a completely new land.

In 1541 Quito was officially tagged as a city. By the year 1556 Quito was tagged as a noble and loyal city due to the behavior of the locals which were very friendly to the Spanish Regime.

In 1809 the city of Quito had a population of around 10,000 inhabitants. It was in the same year that the famous movement started aiming to provide independence to the city from the clutches of Spain.

In 1845 the city faced the Marxist Revolution and in 1875 the President of this country was assassinated.

Slowly the city of Quito has surpassed all the hassles it had to face during its history and today it is one of the most stable cities in the country of Ecuador.
