Plzen Sights – Galleries
West Bohemia, which is found in Plzen, is considered the center for culture and the arts. Here, tourists can find a number of galleries housing countless artworks from past to present. Gallery of West Bohemia. Founded in 1954, this gallery is found at the heart of the arts and culture. The gallery was established in 1954 and during that time all the exhibitions and displays were housed in the Museum of West Bohemia. At present, the artworks of the gallery comprise of some 10,000 items and are mostly Czech art.
Plzen Municipal Gallery. Found on the Square of the Republic No. 40, the Plzen Municipal Gallery is actually a portion of the town hall complex. Its halls include profound vaults, well lighted corridors and a courtyard. From the time that it was founded, the Plzen Municipal Gallery became famous as one of the chief exhibition halls in the whole of Czech Republic.
Plzen Sights – Landmarks of History and Culture
Plzen’s historical and cultural centers are found at the Municipal Historic District and Square of the Republic. It is hard not to take notice of these two districts when exploring the city of Plzen since both are remarkable and visible. It is on these places where tourists will find many landmarks about Plzen’s history and culture.
Plague Memorial. This was constructed in 1681 as the citizens’ thanksgiving for the remission of the last year’s plague breakout. Found at the top of the column is a reproduction of the Plzen Madonna at the St. Bartholomew Cathedral.
Scriboniovsky House. This house was built during the Renaissance Era and made up of two burgher houses. At present, the house is the home to a number of European cultural foundations thus it is also known as the European House.
Plzen Sights – Recreational Sites
In terms of recreation and relaxation, Plzen has many sights to offer. Children as well as adults can enjoy playgrounds, zoos, and parks the city offers. Every tourist will take pleasure in these Plzen Sights.
Zoological and Botanical Garden. The botanical garden as part of this site has different landscape variations, small lakes, rocks, and parks. The zoo on the other hand, has a very big space for bears (second biggest in Europe) and a natural environment for monkeys and large cats.
Strunc Park. It is a green triangle-shaped region near the historical center of Plzen. This park is most famous to sports aficionados because the FC Victoria stadium can be found here. Aside from this, there is a great view of the Radbuzy River from the park.
