Discovering Mikulov becomes an adventure and you will be given the opportunity to walk through places rich in history.

You can see Mikulov castle, once the residence of The Liechtensteins. The castle is opened to the public and there is a nice gallery and exhibitions on wine making traditions. As a proof of how much wine is appreciated in the region there is a wine festival held every year.

Are you looking for fun? You can find it here in Mikulov as there are plenty of concerts and dancing performances, galleries, numerous activities like horseback riding, biking or more relaxing wine tasting or even grape picking. There is an old tradition in this region concerning wine making and it goes back to Roman times. You can see a glimpse of how the wine was made in the old times at the Regional Museum in the Mikulov Castle. The Palava Hills with their lime stone are offering the right conditions for grape growing and some of the best wine in the country is made here. You can taste it either in some of Mikulov restaurants of in the countryside of course in the countryside wine tasting will always go with its story told by its maker, but this makes it even “tastier”.

The beautiful and varied region offers the tourists plenty of trails and the biking ones all have signs that lead you easily to where you want to go. They are safe and easy to take as there are not many up and down the hill making them suitable even for the less trained ones. The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape Area is protected by UNESCO and is a great place for biking about 200 km.

Other outdoor activities include: hiking, playing tennis, squash, bowling in any of the sports centers and water based activities like: diving, windsurfing, swimming or yachting.

Water is near the city and it takes just a few minutes drive to get to the Nove Mlyny water reservoir for a swim or sunbathing. The waterfront is suitable for sunbathing and you can choose between grass and sand. If you feel like having fun on the water there are motor ships to be rented and you can even use them for fishing. You will stand in the middle of the water and fish in silence.

Another great place for splashing and sunbathing is the recreation area in Pasohlavki where you can find one of the best camps in the country called ATC Merkur. You can either stay in a tent or choose to accommodate in a B&B, bungalow or cottage. This place is perfect for children as there are shallow banks and their safety is ensured. There is a lot in store for children you can take them to the circus, to the summer cinema or to the jumping castle they will have a lot of fun!

Another really great place for children not far from Mikulov is the Apollo pond with its sandy beaches and artificial little pond where they can fish. They can even play beach volleyball. And the list goes on with another child friendly area called Lednice still around Mikulov. They can go horse riding here and in the Milulov Horse riding area where they can play cowboys and indians at the Pony Ranch.

If you’d rather stay in town Mikulov offers its swimming pools that are highly appreciated.

If you want to see it all in a few hours there is the great option of getting on a plane at the Aeroclub in the nearby town of Breclav.

Art lovers have a lot to see and do in Mikulov and the best time to come is in late July as there are exhibitions taking place in the workshops on the terraces or in the park around the castle. They can visit Dilna a modern art symposium boasting the works both local and foreign artists. July is also a good month to come if you want to attend the guitar festival, a time when the streets of Mikulov fill with music.

Another good month for visiting is September when besides the wine festival you can attend the international choir festival called Campanila. Still in September the more religious ones can take part in the pilgrimage tradition to the Black Madonna of Loreto.
