Abidjan Sights and Landmarks Guide, Cote D'Ivoire

Sometimes called the “Paris of West Africa”, Abidjan is a beautiful place to explore and see. It had its peak of development and supremacy as a city during the rule of Felix Houphigny-Bouet. He had done so much for the city to become a popular one that today he was given the honor of being the Godfather of Ivory Coast, but due to several civil wars and the unstable political status of the Abidjan, the city lost its luster and advantage.

Many foreigners left the city buildings and public places were neglected or left less maintained. The famous Hotel Ivoire best depicts what we call the lost glory of Abidjan. The hotel administration had not done any major changes on its building including a big swimming pool full of weeds. Entering it gives you the feeling of going back to the sixties to feel the lost glory of the city. This is just one side of the Abidjan that you can notice when sightseeing.

But there is a very beautiful public zoo that is richly inhabited with interesting animals. With Africa’s efforts to preserve a number of species in its country, the government had special treatments to raise as many national parks and zoos as it can all over the country. One of these parks is in Abidjan. With a very small entrance fee, you can experience and see the animals inside it and think that you had contributed to the conservation efforts of these animals.

Bassam Abidjan’s top beach resort is a must see. Feel the African breeze and enjoy the sun on the beach of Bassam. Because Abidjan is mainly a fishing village, there are so many beaches to go to and enjoy. You can also chat with locals while staying on the beach to learn a little bit about their culture and lifestyle.

Today with the struggles this city experiences, many tourists spots are now suffering from heaps of litters being dumped everywhere. Also because of demonstrations and people’s unrest owing to the unstable political status of the city, Abidjan, as said, had lost its glory endowed by the Godfather of Ivory Coast.

You should be choosy in going to places in Abidjan in order to avoid experiencing unpleasant things. You can ask hotel staff of the most inspiring and beautiful places to go while staying in Abidjan. Excitement and unique experience are not guaranteed by the big number of places you visit, but by what you experience when you are in a certain place.
