Cartagena Travel Guide, Colombia

The port city of Cartagena is located somewhere in the northern region within the country of Columbia. Officially, the city of Cartagena is known as Cartagena de Indias.

 It has many water bodies surrounding the city which makes the location of the city best for tourists. On the western side lies the Caribbean Sea while on the southern side lies the Cartagena Bay. This famous Cartagena Bay has two major entrances namely the Big Mouth (or the Bocagrande) in the northern side and the Small Mouth (or the Bocachica) in the southern region.

The highest temperature ever recorded in the city of Cartagena was 36 degree Celsius somewhere in the month of July. The lowest temperature ever recorded in the city of Cartagena was around 18 degree Celsius somewhere in the month of January. The annual average highest temperature is around 29 degree Celsius while the annual lowest temperature for the city of Cartagena is around 23 degree Celsius. The city of Cartagena experiences around 90 percent of humidity throughout the year with rain hitting the city twice. Firstly, rainy season comes between the months of April and May and secondly between the months of October and November. Although the climate of Cartagena is fairly hot throughout the year yet due to the continuous breeze that flows in the city the climate of the city becomes bearable. Months between November and February experience huge winds due to which the climate cools down considerably.

The city of Cartagena has grown immensely in terms of architecture. Although the windy climate of Cartagena has always been a hurdle while planning high rise buildings, yet almost 50 skyscrapers are constructed in the city of Cartagena every year. The architects of Cartagena are creating narrow buildings to cope with the windy atmosphere of the city. Work on the tallest skyscraper of Cartagena is still going on. The skyscraper has been named as Torre de la Escollera. Some historical monuments of Cartagena have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.

The population of the city as per the census of year 2005 was around 1012000 inhabitants which jumped to 1090000 inhabitants when the census of the year 2006 was conducted. Critics have projected that the population of Cartagena will touch around 3 million inhabitants by the year 2033.
