Xiamen is one of the cities in China with a known provincial affiliation. It has a lot of sights to offer to travelers. It pays to take a look at the annual events, climate, transportation and some of its attractions as well.
Annual Events
Xiamen is rich in annual events which tourists as well as locals could take part of all-year round. Chinese New Year or Chun Jie is of course on top of the list usually commemorated in January or February. This is considered as a very significant occasion in the lunar calendar.
The Lantern Festival or the Yuan Xiao Jie, is celebrated in late February or early March of each year. The lanterns scattered in the park are believed to bring luck in finding one’s perfect mate. The Xiamen International Marathon and the Dragon Boat Festival are equally entertaining as well.
Climate
Xiamen is an area between tropical and temperate areas that experience tropical conditions during some months of the year or the whole year. During the warmest season, Xiamen does not feel extreme hotness and during the coldest season, people in Xiamen do not experience intense coldness. The normal yearly temperature is 21 degrees Celsius while the average rainfall is 1200 mm. On the average, Xiamen experiences three to four typhoons every year that usually fall from the month of July to September.
Transportation
People in Xiamen can transport through air, railway, or they can use bus, bicycles, or taxi in their everyday life. One of the prominent airports in China is the Xiamen International Airport. On the other hand, there are ten available buses each day which bring commuters to Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shantou.
Riding in a public bus can cost commuters an ordinary fare of 1 yuan and 2 yuan for the air-conditioned buses. There are also mini buses that can give a ride anywhere as long as they are outside the prohibited areas. A lot of taxis are scattered in the roads. Taxi drivers charge their passenger 8 yuan for the first three kilometers and an additional 2 yuan for each succeeding kilometer.
Attractions
Xiamen is filled with extraordinary attractions as well. One of which is called the Gulangyo Island where you will definitely see a “garden on the sea”. You could also catch a glimpse of architectural exhibitions while in the area.
Other tourist spots worth of your attention is the Crag of Sunlight, Qin Garden and the Xiamen Underwater Sea World. While at the latter, you will get to explore the largest aquarium in China with sea and fresh water animals found within. It is actually subdivided into different areas depending upon the nature and kind of the water animal.
Xiamen is indeed a good stop should you plan of travelling to China. You will find their festivities joyous, their climate temperate enough for your needs and their attractions outstandingly wonderful. The different modes of transport will bring you anywhere conveniently.
