Jilin City can be found in a hilly region of Northeastern China. It is the second biggest city in the Province of Jilin. The city has mountains, hills, lakes and valleys that are truly very scenic.
Travel
The nearest airport in the city of Jilin is the Changchun Longjia International Airport located in the city of Changchun. It has international flights bound for South Korea, Russia and Japan. It also has a lot of domestic flights. The distance of this airport from Jilin City is 65km.
Travelers can go to Jilin City from the airport by way of the coach service which takes four trips a day to the city. Another option is to take a taxi ride. However, this costs around 200 yen compared to the coach service which is priced at around 20 yen.
Another means of transportation to get to Jilin City is through the railway station. A ride from Beijing would take about 12 hours while a train ride from Shanghai would spend around 31 hours. Other cities where you can ride the train to get to Jilin City are Changchun which takes two hours, Harbin, Shenyang, and Yanji all of which take five hours of travel time.
When travelling around the city, tourists can either choose to take a bus ride or traverse with a taxi. Bus rides are cheap but they get crowded during the rush hour. Taxis have a starting fee of 5 yen.
Climate
The city of Jilin has a temperate continental monsoon climate. It has four seasons and the most dominant is winter because it is the longest and the temperature is chilly. The coldest month of the year is January wherein the temperature goes as low as -18 degrees in Celsius.
Tourism
Winter days may be freezing, but this is the time when the tourism of Jilin City is in its peak. Tourists prefer to visit the city during this season to witness the splendor of the rime ice on the trees along Songhua River. In addition to that, the city offers a lot of winter sports such as ice skating, skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and winter swimming. The top ski resorts in the city are North Big Lake, Songhua Lake, North Hill and Zhuque Hill. Another reason why tourists visit during winter is to witness the Jilin Rime Ice and Snow Festival.
Attractions
Aside from the magnificence of Jilin City during the winter season, travelers can also take a look at the different sights the city has to offer. The city is a home to the Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Goguryeo Kingdom. Other sites to visit are Confucius Temple, Songhuahu National Park, Zhuque Shan or Rosefinch Mountain, Meteorite, North Hill Park, Dragon Pool Mountain Park, Century Square, and Jiangcheng Square.
