Haikou lies at the northern end of the Hainan Island, which is the second largest island of China. Haikou, also called the 'Coconut City' is the cultural, provincial, administrative hub of the Hainan province. The town is bordered by the sea on three sides giving it an excellent coastline. Although the town is not as famous as Hong Kong or Beijing, it boasts ample avenues of entertainment and fantastic attractions making Haikou a great choice of destination for your next vacation.

Haikou Sights: Historical and Cultural Attractions

Speaking about the historical importance of Haikou sights, the first and foremost attraction is the Wugong Temple. The temple was dedicated to five historical celebrities of the Song and the Tang dynasties who ruled the province in the past centuries. Apart from the old Chinese architectural legacy, the temple is known for the surrounding gardens of fresh flowers offering the place a fantastic look. Then, there is the famous Tomb of Hai Rui. The tomb dates back to the 14th century. Visit the Qiongtai Academy that was established way back 1705 in the memory of the famous scholar Qiu Jing. The academy is a good example of Chinese wood and brickwork.

Haikou Sights: Natural Attractions

One of the most famous natural Haikou sights is the Holiday beach in the western part of the town. This fantastic beach is one of the most beautiful places in town. Exclusive flora, cool breeze, glittering seawater and picturesque beauty rule the area. The entire beach is divided in four sections: the Sports arena or District, Ocean dining District, Relaxation and Holiday District and the Beach Sunbathing District.

Another alluring part of the Haikou coastline is the Shinei Bay. The wide-open sea and picturesque beauty of this white sand beach will leave you mesmerized. Just a few kilometers in the open sea, is the beautiful Jiajing Island. You can experience diving amidst colorful corals and wonderful aquatic life. The Donjiao Coconut Plantation is a wonderful place to experience the natural elegance of the coconut trees. The place has all kinds of coconut trees along the beach. The beach here is quite shallow with a variety of seafood choices like prawns, abalones, lobsters, etc. You can enjoy some great water sport activities and later pamper your taste buds with a fresh catch from the sea at local eateries nearby.

Then, there is the famous Ma'an Ling Volcanic Vent, which is an extinct volcano that is preserved quite well. The Nanli Lake offers another natural attraction in the area. You cannot miss visiting the Donzhai Harbor Mangrove Natural Reserve, where you can see exclusive variety birds and mangroves. You also have a chance to see some rare species of migratory birds that come to the reserve.

Haikou Sights: Other Attractions

Haikou has various zoos and parks that are worth a visit. The Tropical Safari, Jinniu Ling Park and the People's Park are some of the famous ones. You must visit the famous Tropical Ocean world, which one of the largest ocean theme parks in China. You get to see some rare and impressive aquatic life in the park. To your surprise, the park has a tropical rainforest area, where you can visit the Tropical Flower Garden, Tropical Fruit Garden, Tropical Tree Garden and the Tropical Rain Forest Garden.

Just a few kilometers from the town of Haikou, you can see the famous Wuzhi mountain. The mountain has an interesting location offering a fantastic panoramic view from its high peak and has scenic waterfalls around.
