Dairen, China Overveiw

Dairen, China, now commonly called Dalian, was voted as China’s most livable city in 2007. It is also often considered the most beautiful city in China, as well.

The area in and around is an agricultural area, and supplies vegetables and fruits, but it is also an aquaculture based area, and exports scallops, sea urchins, and seaweed as well to Japan and Korea.

Dalian is also home to shipbuilding and locomotive industries. There are other thriving industries now in Dalian, including chemical manufactures, Wal-mart, and Mycal. Mycal is a Japanese retail chain that was recently bought out by their Chinese partner. Dalian is also the largest port for petroleum in all of China. It is a major city for oil refineries and for the manufacture of diesel.

Dalian is also home to Intel’s new project. Intel plans to build a semiconductor facility. It will build Intel’s microprocessors and should be operation by 2010.

Tourism abounds in Dalian, and the city is a favorite among Chinese and foreign tourists. There are many beautiful beaches, which is one of the main attractions in the area. In 2006, Dalian was rated as one of the top three Tourism cities in the entire world

Dalian is home to three zoos. The Forest Zoo is a unique establishment that has a free range area and also has a traditional zoo. Polar World is the only zoo in China to keep polar animals. Shengya Ocean world, offers a chance to walk through an underwater transportation tunnel.

Sports play a huge role in the local culture. Dalai’s soccer team has really dominated the sport and has won 7 out of the last nine titles. There is definitely something for everyone in this great city. Dalian is cultural and historical city and you can find something to occupy your time while visiting.
