Windsor Travel Guide, Ontario

Discovering Windsor as a Holiday Destination

If you are looking for a great holiday destination in Canada, then you might like visiting Windsor in Ontario. A place where transportation access, economy, and climate all combine to make a great atmosphere for tourists; the city has a great abundance of tourist spots as well as nightlife options that are aimed to please travelers and locals alike.

Served by the Windsor Airport and the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, transportation for going around the city can also be handled by the Transit Windsor. It also has a completed municipal highway that runs from the east to the west and then into the city. This makes it quite easy to access all the art, heritage, and cultural offerings of Windsor.

The climate of the city, which is known as humid continental, features four different seasons. Winters in the city are quite cold with several main snowfalls, while summers are humid and warm. This makes Windsor as a great place to be during summer season, especially when you intend to explore the city and its offerings.

Tourism and Culture in Windsor

The city is known by its moniker the “City of Roses” or the “Rose City.” The gardens and number of huge parks along the waterfront of the city have added to its appeal as a tourist attraction. The most notable of these gardens is the Queen Elizabeth II Sunken Garden, which can be found at the Jackson Park. This park is where the replicas of the Hurricane and Spitfire are mounted.

There are also other tourist attractions that can be enjoyed in Windsor and these include its vibrant downtown area, the Art Gallery of Windsor and the Little Italy. There are also the Ojibway Park, the Point Pelee National Park, and the Odette Sculpture Park.

Aside from the parks and gardens in the city, there is also another thing that you can enjoy in Windsor and this is the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival. This two-week long festival celebrates the Canada Day and the Independence Day of America during its culmination, which features awesome fireworks. Held every final Wednesday of June, this fireworks display is known to be among the biggest in the whole world.

Windsor’s Night Scene

Windsor is also known for its night scene. This is because its legal drinking age is 19 years old and not the usual 21 in other American states and places. As such, the city is known to be frequented by a lot of young Detroiters who are not yet allowed into the nightclubs and bars in their own state. The gaming scene in Windsor is also quite advanced because of the Caesar’s Windsor’s, which was launched five years before casinos started opening in Detroit.
