Peterborough Sights and Landmarks Guide, Ontario

Peterborough is situated on the banks of Otonabee River in Ontario Canada. It is known as the gateway to “the cottage country' of the Kawarthas. It is situated 125 KM away from Toronto and it also serves as the provincial highway. Peterborough has a mayor council system and it is a single-tier municipality. The city council comprises of a mayor and 10 city councilors.

Peterborough offers huge transportation options including railways, intercity buses, public, public transit and cruise ships. It also offers a wide range of attractions and worth seeing-sights, being a historical city full of heritage and culture.  

The city hosts a number of exhibitions and festivals and there are a large number of indoor and outdoor theaters and galleries.

In addition there are numerous historical sites and a vibrant arts community. The Peterborough Centennial Museum is a wonderful place for people who love to explore Peterborough’s history, culture and art craft. There are a lot of archive collections including Balsillie collection of Roy Studio Images, items from Catharine Parr Traill and the Peter Robinson papers.

Peterborough has a lot of theaters that shows scheduled movies, live programs, musical shows, and performances from local and international artists and singers. Some of the sightseeing places in Peterborough are Thanksgiving City Hall, Remembrance Day City Hall, Christmas City Hall and Art Gallery of Peterborough. Peterborough also has a number of gardens, museums, theatres, hotels, nightclubs and cultural centers.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park

The Petroglyphs Provincial Park is a very famous park in Peterborough, which has more than 900 images carved on rocks. It is largest park of its kind in Canada.

Squirrel Creek Conservation Area

It features walking trails, ball fields and beaches.

Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park

This park provides a great atmosphere for those who wish to walk in the woods. It is also a play land for many small birds and animals.

Riverview Park and Zoo

It features more than 40 species of animals. The zoo is located on the Otonabee River and it provides scenic views of the river.

Vinette Street Park

It is a small park located on the Otonabee River.

Indian River Reptile Zoo

It is a specialized zoo that houses snakes, crocodile, lion and anaconda. The Indian River Reptile Zoo is a big source of enjoyment for people of all ages.
