The small city of Anahim Lake is a part of the British Columbia province located in the western part of Canada on the shores of the Pacific Ocean,78 miles from Bella Coola and 123 miles from Burns Lake. The city has an average elevation of 1127m and is set in a mountainous valley which besides Anahim Lake comprises a large number of other lakes among which Nimpo Lake, Wawa Lake, Pelican Lake and more.
The local climate is continental with some influences due to elevation and location, having warm but dry summers and cool, moist winters. Temperatures are usually higher in July and august and are cooler in December and January as for the precipitations we can say that the moister period of the year is June and the driest is February.
The main element in the local hydrographic network is Lake Anahim, a popular place among locals and tourists for fishing trout.

The local flora is abundant and unspoiled by human intervention. Most of the area is forested with coniferous species of fir, pine and spruce and the wet areas near the lake are covered with characteristic species of poplar and grass.

The city is a quite isolated one and is accessible by car or plain only. There is only one access by car on highway 20, and by plane on the local airport connecting Anahim Lake with other Canadian cities. The planes are very useful here due to the fact that many important tourist attractions are inaccessible by car so the floatplane is the only way to get to see them.
There is no public transportation here, taxis or rent a car services so you will have to bring your own car if possible if not you should make arrangements to have a car here before you arrive. In some cases you can be offered a ride from the airport to the lodge by your host.

As you can find in most Anahim Lake travel guides, the local population numbers only 1500 souls and most of them are working in forestry, farming and tourism. Due to its remoteness and small number of inhabitants the city has only one school, a few stores, one gas station and a few lodges.

The traditional Canadian cuisine has as main ingredients fish, wild game, local vegetables and fruits, beef and poultry, herbs and spices and is influenced by the British and Irish cooking. Some of the most popular dishes here are the roast beef or turkey, ginger beef, tourtière, which is meat pie, yellow pea soup, poutine, which is fried potatoes served with cheese and gravy, salmon with wild rice an many more.
As desserts the locals serve whipped soapberry, it is also called “Indian ice cream” and can be served as an ice cream or as a cocktail and maple leaf cream cookies, maple syrup being widely used for desserts. Every meal or dessert can be accompanied by a good local wine or whiskey.
