Whyte Avenue is truly a bustling and entertaining street, especially on weekends when bar hoppers move from one watering hole to the next to absorb the nightlife. It has enough cafes and bistros and unique restaurants to make every evening of your stay in Edmonton one big party.

 The Bar Wild at Whyte Avenue caters to a variety of musical tastes and is a fun place to be in. Students will find the drink specials very budget friendly. A popular Whyte Avenue haunt is the Urban Lounge which features little-known bands as well as big names. It is the perfect place to enjoy some live entertainment and on days when there is no stage show, the dance floor is kept packed by playing a scintillating mixture of music ranging from alt-rock to hip-hop.

Another old-timer on Whyte Avenue, The Black Dog Freehouse has seen many a newbie pub come and go but it is still there rock-solid and catering to its usual eclectic crowd of students, artists, businesspeople, musicians and the neighborhood people. On weekends the bar rocks and if you want a place to sit show up early. The best jazz and blues in Edmonton can still be heard at the Blues on Whyte and it is a vibrant meeting place. Also, on offer is cheap beer which is a hit with students.

If hip and happening Whyte Avenue is not your style and something quieter is preferred, turn into Jasper Avenue to dine at a Greek or pan-Asian restaurant but this, after taking in a play at the Roxy Theatre on 124 Street. An authentic country club is the Cook County Saloon playing country music and waiters doing the ‘cut’ which they’ll be only too happy to teach you.

One of the largest nightclubs in Edmonton, the Globe Tap, Bar and Grill has all its four levels packed on Fridays and Saturdays with people dancing to party hits. It is a great place to eat and sample its fine beer collection. For a casual ambience, go to Esmeraldas which is one of Edmonton’s most popular nightclubs. 

Take in a play, go to a bar or nightclub or gamble the night away in one of its many casinos, Edmonton has something to offer to each visitor.
