The city of Yaoundé happens to be the second largest city in terms of population within the country of Cameroon and the only city which has population above Yaoundé is Douala. The city of Yaoundé is also the capital city for Cameroon and is located right in the center of the country. It has an altitude of around 2500 feet above sea level. It was after the defeat of Germany in World War I that France gained control of this region and this was the time when they named Yaoundé as the capital city for the French occupied Cameroon. The city of Yaoundé has since remained the capital for Cameroon until today.

Name of these few schools are Ecole Militaire InterArmes du Cameroun, and Ecole Normal Superieur for teachers. The city of Yaoundé is also famous the quality of engineering studies which the city provides.

The presence of Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport has also been an important region which has helped the city of Yaoundé gain economical importance on the national level. The city if connected to the neighboring cities via various railway lines.
