This beautiful provincial city is located north-east of Bulgaria 148 miles from Varna, not far from the border with Romania whose capital Bucharest is 174 miles away and the coast of the Black Sea.

Located in the most important agricultural region of Bulgaria, the Dobrudzha Plateau, Dobrich is a picturesque city with numerous tourist attractions. The general landscape is of flat terrain with isolated low hills, belonging to the Danube Plain and having an average elevation of 210m.

Dobrich is blessed with a mild temperate continental climate strongly influenced by the nearby Black Sea. There are four seasons throughout the year, cool springs, snowy winters, warm autumns and hot and rainy summers. The entire area is windy all year round especially in winter when the northern influences are more present.

The local hydrographic network is represented by the only water flow that crosses the city, the Suha Reka River.

The local flora and fauna is rich and diverse, so characteristic for the steppe where Dobrich is located. The typical fauna species encountered here are the rodents, foxes, lizards, squirrels and several bird species. The waters of the Suha Reka River house species of carp and crucian along with frogs and fresh water turtles.

The local flora is represented by different species of grass, poplars, willows and alders. Forests are scarce due to extensive industrial activities in the area as well as agriculture.

Dobrich travel guide presents the city as one of the most important in Bulgaria, thus it has a very well developed transport infrastructure. You can reach the city from any part of the world by car, train, sea or air. The nearest airport is Varna International Airport at about 30 km away where you can also find many options for your transfer to Dobrich. Traveling by water is also a good option due to the presence of the Danube River and of the Black Sea coast nearby the city. The main ports at the Black Sea in this part of the country are Varna and Balchik and at the Danube River are Silistra and Rousse.

Within the city, visitors can use the public transport system represented by buses and trams, can take a taxi or rent a car from the many local companies.

Dobrich numbers about 100.000 inhabitants, less than it used to several years ago due to intensive migration and negative natural population growth. The vast majority is made up of Bulgarians of Orthodox religion, with ages over 39. The locals work in the industry, commerce, tourism and last but not least agriculture.

The fertile lands and favorable climate determine the Dobrich’s surrounding areas to be used intensively in agriculture, Dobrudja being the most important agricultural area in the country. On the other hand tourism is also very important, supported by the numerous natural and cultural attractions located in the city and its surroundings.

The Bulgarian traditional cuisine is very characteristic for the Balkan area having as main ingredients primarily local vegetables followed by pork meat, feta cheese, herbs and more. Bulgarians are famous for their moussaka, a dish made up of aubergine, tomatoes, meat and cheese, gyuvech, a traditional vegetable and beef stew, drob sarma, a stew made with lamb organs and rice, tarator, a cucumber, yogurt and dill cold soup served especially in summer, halva, a dessert made up of semolina, sesame, nut butter or pistachio and many other more delicious treats.

Herbs are also very popular here, many dishes being made with peppermint or summer savory. As for the drinks Bulgarians have several much appreciated wines, but they also drink beer, rakia, a cereal based alcoholic drink or mastika, a liquor flavored with the resin of a local tree.
