Teresina Sights and Landmarks Guide, Brazil

Teresina in Brazil has a lot to offer the tourists who come to see its interesting tourist attractions.  There are many sights to see while in Teresina that will fit the preferences of any tourist.  Whether you want to go to the best shops in Teresina, see the natural wonders or visit the historic sights of Teresina, this town has everything that any visitor could ever ask for.

For nature lovers, one of the best places to visit is the O Encontro dos Rios where the Poti River meets the Parnaiba River before they empty out into the Atlantic Ocean.  It is quite a sight to see.  A unique related opportunity is to go to the river beaches between June and November.  During these months, the water levels of the beaches decrease which expose large sandy river beach areas where people can lay out.  However, this only occurs from June to November because during all of the other months the river flows over the sandy banks. 

Teresina has many interesting historic spots in its town.  One such place is the Palacio de Karnak which was once the residence of the governor and has a unique Greco Roman structure.  Unfortunately, the same governor took off with the majority of the pieces of art and collectibles that used to be on display here.  If you are a history buff, then you may want to go to the Museu Historico do Piaui which has various sections dedicated to different interests such as the history of Brazil, popular art, flora and fauna, technology, religious art, and archaeology.   You can also check out the Catedral de Nossa Senhora do Amparo.

For the shopping aficionados, you can go to one of the largest markets in Brazil known as the Mercado Troca Troca which is a type of flea market.  Troca troca actually means to barter.  Instead of using money, most “purchases” made here are actually exchanges where you can exchange your personal items for items on display of equal value or desire at the mercado troca troca.  You can also venture over to the Centro Artesanal which is a bit more traditional than the troca troca where you can buy leather items, furniture, opals and soapstone, hammocks and other homemade crafts.

There is a lot to see while in Teresina.  Just make sure that you stay long enough to see and experience all of these Brazilian treasures.
