Sao Goncalo, Brazil - Overview: Major Attractions in Rio De Janeiro
Sao Goncalo is a municipality located in the southwestern Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil. It is situated on the famous Imbuacu Stream and is also enveloped by the eastern shore of the Guanabara Bay. It’s the sixteen largest city of Rio de Janeiro but tends to be the second most populated.
Weather
The weather of the city is welcoming for the tourists. Light Southeastern winds at the speed of 19km/hr to 39km/hr mark the weather conditions during the months of November and December. Apart from it, scattered clouds, along with the probability of rainfall and precipitation are noted. While, during the months of June and July, the noted wind speed is 9 km/hr with the average temperature of 30 degrees.
Culture
The cultural life of Sao Goncalo is varied and diversified. It reflects the Brazilian heritage and foundations. The festive reputation of the city is evident through the various parties, balls, music and defiles, which are the street parades.
Though the city does not have enticing beaches to flaunt of, the impressive manner in which the monuments are preserved is to be appreciated. One of the famous churches is located on Rua Sao Goncalo, which is near Praca da Cathedral, another church which can be reached through the Rua Francisco Araujo.
Economy
Industrialization forms the backbone of the economic infrastructure of Sao Goncalo. It has a vibrant and active processing and manufacturing industry. The major products are pharmaceuticals, glass works, chemicals and cement.
The economic conditions are going to further improve with the forthcoming construction of one of the most complex and greatest refineries in the neighboring city of Itaborai. This much awaited construction would increase both employment and investment opportunities.
Transportation
The transportation system in the city is on its way to development, although currently there is only one railway and highway route that links this city to the other major destinations in Rio de Janeiro. Apart from it, the municipality lacks a major airport. But the domestic flight go through the Regional Airport at Santos Dumont. The international flights are conducted from Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim airport.
Thus, Sao Goncalo tends to be one of the major attraction centers in Rio de Janeiro.
