Campinas is a Brazilian City whose traces of history are tracked from the variety of events that brought it to existence. It was actually a simple town that flourished into a modern city. The City’s Foundation
It was in July 14, 1774 when the city was founded by a certain Barreto Leme. Previous to its foundation, Campinas was a simple station connected to Minas Gerias and Gojas. It served as a route for the so-called Bandeirantes who were conducting searches for precious metals and minerals as well as Indian slaves. During the early half of the 19th century, it was a center for sugarcane and coffee farming.
The Growth of Campinas
A railway construction was made in 1867 to link the seaport of Santos to Sao Paulo. During this era, slavery was put to an end and industrialization took place. This paved the way to Campinas’ ability to attract foreign investors and immigrants. The latter replaced the work force that Italy used to supply for the area.
Since coffee was one of its prime commodities, the people took advantage of its abundance. Several products extracted from the crop as well as coffee itself was exported not only to other cities in Brazil but also to other countries in the world. Because of this major stepping stone in the world of trade for Campinas, a lot of people were provided stable jobs to have comfortable living.

Campinas is famous not only for its goods and services but for the remarkable individuals who established their names in different fields of endeavor. Aside from giving its own President for Brazil in the person named Campos Salles, it is also the place where the famous opera composer, Carlos Gomes, was born. The city also embraced one of the most reputable photography, mimeograph and photocopying inventors in the name of Hercules Florence.

The eagerness of the people of Campinas to establish a mark in world history was supported by the different institutions built in the place. Besides farming and industrialization, the city found hope in several infrastructures that include banking institutions, movie houses and radio stations. The cultural heritage of the people is being shown by local performers in their opera houses and theaters. The government had also established educational systems and hospitals. In their love for mission and obligation, they also founded a house for charity. It also has for its name a research center which is vital for agriculture.
Campinas’ history dwelled a lot on the people’s passion to serve and contribute in world economy. The city is a good example of a place where the locals are inclined to form part of the nation’s growth and development. Brazil is indeed proud of this outstanding city.
