Belo Horizonte Sights and Landmarks Guide, Brazil

There is a ton to see in the beautiful Belo Horizonte.  If you are visiting Brazil, there are several tourist attractions which you must not miss out on.   

Belo Horizonte has various important cultural sights for Brazil.  One of the neighborhoods where you must go to is Pampulha.  Pampulha exhibits the preserved architecture of the 1940s in Brazil.  It can be seen on the houses and the important surrounding areas.  Such areas demonstrating this contemporary Brazilian architecture include the São Francisco de Assis Church, the Mineirão stadium, the Guanabara Park and much more.

In the business and finance district of Belo Horizonte one can visit the Boa Viagem Cathedral and  the Praça da Estação which is otherwise known as the Station Square. At this museum, you will see artwork that dates back from before the industrial revolution in Brazil. 

You can stroll over to the Municipal Park, if you want to take a scenic walk. The Municipal Park is excellent for children because it contains three play houses and it was designed after French parks which can be duly noted once you see the beautiful lagoons. In Sete de Setembro Square you will see an Obelisk that was erected in 1922 to mark the hundred year anniversary of the independence from the Portuguese. 

In the Savassi area of Belo Horizonte, you can find the liveliest Brazilian culture with booming nightclubs and classy restaurants.  In the surrounding area, you will find other touristic destinations such as the Praça da Liberdade and the Palace of Liberty or the Palácio da Liberdade, which was the first building built during Brazil's economic boom in the late 1890s. Praça da Liberdade contains a unique architectural delight by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. 

One more significant landmark is the Praça do Papa (Plaza of the Pope), which you can find in the southern end of the business district area.  It is popular because it offers the tourist its impressive panoramic view of the Belo Horizonte, hence its name, the beautiful horizon.
