Thimphu, Nightlife – General Information

Thimphu is the beautiful capital of Bhutan, located in the valley that bears its name. It offers an amazing scenery due to the beautiful landscape that surrounds it and because it is located at a high altitude of 2320 m. The local religion is Buddhism and the locals respect it with rigor, so you might find it difficult to believe they ever go out and have fun.

There are a lot of great local events in Thimphu. One of the most spectacular Buddhist festivals is Paro Tsechu. People dress in traditional clothes and prepare to get blessing from their Buddhist priest. The ceremony is held in the first part of the year. The second great local event is Thimphu Tsechu another religious festival. Wearing traditional clothes the locals perform dances and allegorical dramas for their Guru Padmasambhava, that “who was born of a lotus flower”. The events are full of mysticism and allure any tourist attracted to such ceremonies full of legend and history.
