Sankt Johann In Tirol Travel Guide, Austria
Located an hour away from Salzburg Sankt Johann in Tirol is a well known resort with a typical Austrian flavor offering a lot in terms of winter entertainment.
The best way to get here is to fly to Salzburg then take a bus to the railway station and then the train to the resort.
Being populated all year round the resort offers its facilities both in winter and summer. In summer you can enjoy hiking, mountain climbing at Kaisergebirge, near St. Johann and swimming in a big outdoor swimming pool while in winter skiing is the major sport practiced.
The little town where the resort is located is charming and filled with wooden houses Tyrolean style.
There are excellent groomed ski slopes, great cross-country trails, great views offered by the beautiful setting, the resort being located in a wide valley between the mountain peaks of Kitzbuheler Horn and Wilder Kaiser, this is outside, speaking about the indoor facilities there are plenty of four-star hotels offering great accommodation and entertainment especially during the evening. If you feel like relaxing in warm water there is an indoor aqua complex that is very much appreciated by the tourists.
With all it has to offer St Johann in Tirol is perfect for the less pretentious tourists and for those with not very high budgets. It is quite an affordable resort and many choose to stay here and make the resort their base camp for visiting the area. For example the more chic resort of Kitzbuhel is just 10 km away and you can easily enjoy all that the resort has to offer except accommodation facilities which are more expensive.
St Johann in Tirol is fully equipped though with all the local amenities you would expect a winter resort to have, there are plenty of shops and restaurants. Families with children will enjoy their time in this resort as there are excellent childcare facilities where their kids will have a great time.
The resort is quite populated and people who work here do not come just for the season they really live here and this gives the resort a much homey feel.
The ski season begins in December and ends in April and the best time to come here is in January and March as this is the period with the lowest prices.
You can enjoy 60kms of well groomed slopes designed for all ability levels. It is true though that the slopes are mainly fro beginners and intermediate skiers, but the more advanced ones have a small part for themselves, too. The longest run is of 9 km so there is plenty of skiing to do! And if you still want more you can continue at Kitzbuhel dotted with slopes.
Actually the Tirol area has 119 resorts all within close reach so in a week or so you can visit quite few of them; it would be really nice if you plan on staying on night in each and you will decide which one you liked the best in the end.
The lifts are 17 in number and they provide easy access to the slopes.
All in all St Johann in Tirol is a great resort, quiet, unpretentious, with great prices, a lot of amenities, plenty of slopes and facilities to satisfy every tourist.
