Mayrhofen Travel Guide, Austria
Set in a beautiful valley at an altitude of 630m in the upper Zillertal, Mayrhofen is a recreational all year round spot that is in the hearth of the Alps.Mayrhofen is a year round alpine resort committed to providing an excellent skiing experience. We invite you to come and discover it and enjoy the warmth of the people and the unhurried lifestyle.
The valley is surrounded by mountains and its strategic location gives the tourists the possibility to wander around climbing each day a different mountain. The cable cars that link the mountains and the valley are present to make your trip effortless. People flock here because of what they can find, that is a beautiful combination of peace, action, great views, outdoor activities, great facilities and accommodation possibilities. The many restaurants offer a wide variety of delicious menus and both the atmosphere and the service are excellent.
Among the activities you can choose from in summer there are: mountain climbing, hiking in the Naturpark Zillertaler Alps, swimming, fishing, playing tennis or golf, cycling, hang gliding and skiing while in winter the favorite is skiing, skiing for all ages and all levels. Starting with the little ones and ending with the expert skiers they all enjoy an unforgettable experience.
You’ll see all kinds of people at Mayrhofen and families with children are among the most. Probably due to the great ski school for children they find here and the facilities and expert trainers they find. Other winter activities on the list are ice-skating, sledding on a natural toboggan run, horseback riding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, curling, and playing sports in an indoor arena.
Many consider Mayrhofen one of the prime resorts in Austria and one of the reasons is the variety of entertainment options it can offer, many of which are linked to nature. Besides the wanders of nature that surround the valley meaning the 3000m peaks and the glaciers on top, you can also visit the reservoir dams. Then there is the Ahorn area south of Mayrhofen at an elevation of 1,906m that can be reached by cableway which is really worth visiting for the panoramic views it offers, the Tuxertal or Tux Valley is a very nice one that leads to Olperer, Lanersbach and Hintertux little villages all worth a look.
Hintertux is especially interesting as you can see the Hintertux glacier and have a hot bath in one of its thermal springs. Lanersbach is the largest of them all and it is a starting point for getting to Eggalm Plateau with a scenic view.
After a day’s travel around the area you can relax in a nice restaurant or continue with some more activity on the dance floor.
This is a resort like no other, at least from my point of view. It is appreciated for many things but most of all tourists see it as their second home. The cozy atmosphere, the friendly and down-to-earth staff, people who come here regularly makes this resort a place to blend in, find friends and feel like you belong to a big happy family. It will give you the sense that you belong.

If you go there for skying, take one of the ski busses up to the glacier, it´s more relaxed than to drive up yourself. The bus stops you can either ask at your hotel or at the local tourist office. - Tourisst acommodations
