Loanda (now famous by the official name of Luanda) is the capital city for Angola. With a booming population of around 5 million inhabitants, the city of Luanda is also the largest city for the country of Angola. Facing the beautiful Atlantic Ocean this port city of Luanda is famous for its economical importance which helps the growing economy of Angola.
As the city of Luanda holds the status of double capital (firstly the capital of Angola and secondly the capital of Luanda Province) its political importance is also huge in Angola. All major government offices are located in the city of Luanda and every national level decision is taken in this city of Luanda itself.
The economical as well as the political importance of the city has helped it to gain a respectable name on the national level. This has been the major reason why visitors come to the city of Luanda.
Although civil war died down way back in year 2002, the security conditions of the city aren’t that favorable and hence we request you to take care of your belongings all by yourself. There are not too many official places for a tourist to visit but one can always enjoy the natural and simple beauty of Luanda.
To start with, one can visit the Kissama National Park. This is the best national park when compared to any national park of this country. Kissama National Park is also famous by the name of Kissama Game Park. One can contact the local tourist organizations for renting various game viewing vehicles. Kissama National Park was stocked recently with many elephants, antelopes, water buffaloes, and rhinos. These have been brought from various corners of the planet and it is a sight worth watching when they move in groups.
National Museum of Anthropology is famous for its historical artifacts and multiple manuscripts. The huge Roque Santeiro is worth a look. You might be amazed with its beauty. Although many important items were stolen during the civil war, the left over collection is a sight to watch.
Outdoor Market of Luanda is another place to hit but please do leave your money back in your hotel room. Thieves are smarter than you are. One can also visit the posh areas of the city if you are looking for some peace of mind.
