by An intersting site is the fort over the city, the 'Castillo de Santa Barbara'.
It's also very relaxing, if you visit the promenade 'Esplanada de Espana'. It consists out of millions of marble stones and its the point where the people got o in the evening. You can also often listen concerts there.
If you just want to relax, go to one of the two parks, the 'El Palmeral' or 'La Ereta'.
The city is worth a visit if you are around.

Alicante History
Alicante is over 3000 years old, but there is archaeological evidence that points to human settlements of hunters and gatherers in 5000 BC. The native Iberian tribes were illiterate until about 1000 BC, when Greek explorers and traders landed on what is today Costa Blanca, and established several trading ports. Gradually, the natives learned the Phoenician alphabet, ironwork and using the pottery wheel. By the time the Romans invaded the Iberian Peninsula, the Alicante was a flourishing little village.
