Chengtu History

Perhaps the biggest upset in recent history was in May of 2008. An earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale struck, causing significant damage to the area. As of 24th of May, approximately 80,000 people were killed and at least 26,000 were injured. Most deaths and injuries were found in two specific suburban areas of Chengdu. The center of the quake was located roughly 75 kilometers from the inner city of Chengdu.
