Jost Van Dyke, a small island of only four miles long, lies to the North of the British Virgin Islands, having as neighbors the U.S. Virgin Islands.
THE CITY
With a population of 150 people, Jost Van Dyke was named after a Dutch settler. Once the home of sugar-cane plantations, the island is surrounded by a necklace of tiny islets among which Little Jost Van Dyke. Although a small island, Jost Van Dyke was blessed with three beautiful bays. White Bay situated in the western part of the island has few inhabitants while Great Harbor is the centre of the life on the island. With a ferry dock and a Customs House, Great Harbor boasts with restaurant "Foxy's".
HOW TO GET THERE
You can get there by taking a plane to St. Thomas. Once you are on the island you can take a tour by car or if you want to see the three bays, then take a ferry.
ATTRACTIONS
Major attractions on this island are the fine white sand beaches and turquoise waters found at White Bay and Great Harbour.
If you like being surrounded by people, then Great Harbor is your destination. With open-air cafes, wood-shack restaurants you can enjoy one fun little spot you just can't miss: Foxy's, very popular with yachtsmen.
You’ve had enough action? Then go to White bay, a place where you can relax, an oasis of calmness. There are few bars among which Soggy Dollar and Ivan's "Stress-Free" bar. You can even buy Caribbean jewelry and souvenirs from Cocoloco's.
ACTIVITIES
There is a wide range of activities on the island. Looking to plunge a little deeper into the tropical island delight? Then dive into the mysterious depths of the Caribbean. Scuba diving is one of the most cherished activities here on the island. Look for amazing sea life, coral reef, and tropical fish.
For those who want to get a tan, the secluded beaches represent the place where they can lay back and let the sun do its job.
