Traveling somewhere for Christmas is downright impossible if you don’t plan ahead, especially if you want to go with your family. Booking hotels, figuring out transportation and (most importantly), finding a place that everyone will like is a very difficult task. So in order to help you out, here are some Christmas travel ideas for the whole family. Plan you getaway now and enjoy your Christmas vacation in an exciting and unusual setting.
Visit a Christmas market
Who says that you have to buy all the presents for your loved ones before Christmas? Visiting a Christmas market will offer you plenty of opportunities to choose the perfect gift for everyone. Just pay attention to people and observe what they are looking most intently at – and you might just have found a great present that your family will actually really like.
Europe is a great place for Christmas markets, especially towns like Vienna or Berlin, but if you want to stick to the states, Chicago’s German Christmas market will do nicely too.
Take a Christmas Cruise
If you don’t want to spend your entire holiday looking after your kids, but you still want to make sure that they haven’t wandered off somewhere, going on a cruise might just be the perfect solution. You can relax and enjoy yourself while your kids will be having fun on the ship – most cruise ships offer lots of supervised activities for youngsters.
Plus, if you’re going with relatives, on the cruise ship there will be plenty of opportunities to spend time together, as well as on your own.
Winter Sports
If you are an active sort of person, you will probably get bored with shopping and sightseeing for the entire Christmas holiday. Thankfully, the winter season means that you will be able to ski, snowboard, skate or even play hockey, and with so many activities, you definitely won’t find the time to get bored.
Take your family to a skating rink, or plan a holiday at a ski resort. Even if not all the members of your family like winter sports, they will surely appreciate a traditional Christmas dinner in front of a log fire, somewhere in a nice cabin.

If you’re the kind of people who hate temperatures below 68 degrees Fahrenheit, then you should consider spending your holiday in a warmer climate. You don’t have to travel too much in order to find a warm, sunny place, since the US has lots of beaches and islands that are sunny even in the winter months. Consider a trip to Hawaii, or stay on the mainland and spend your Christmas in California or Florida.
