Mission San Luis Rey is the oldest mission in California. It was founded by Franciscan friars in 1794 to convert the local natives to the catholic religion.

Now it can be visited by the public. The rooms, cells and halls were preserved and give a very impressive view of the mission life of the age.

There are also exhibits, the most interesting one is the collection of Spanish vestments from the 18th century on, they say it's the largest in the US.

There is a gift shop as well with nice souvenirs and a great place for picknick if you can afford the time. It's worth it because it's so quaint.

Every day from 10 AM to 4 PM.
