Ocated in the northern area of the Castle district, Golden Lane is a small street with picturesque and colorful houses, some of them date back to the 16th century. The name of the street has got two possible origins. One is that the goldsmiths of the city lived in this area, the other is that Rudolph II allowed Alchemists to move into the houses and seek methods of creating gold.

More famous personalities lived in the houses for short periods. One of them was Franz Kafka who resided under nr.22 with his sister in 1917 for a few months.  Now you can only find souvenir shops, but it's still a breathtaking sight.
