When you are in France, based on my personal experience on a trip to Paris, it goes a long way if you attempt to speak a little French. Although most Parisians speak some English, it is essential that you learn a few phrases such as “Bonjour – Hello”, “Sil vous plait – Please”, “Merci – Thank you”, and “Je ne parle pas francais. En anglais, síl vous plait – I don’t speak French. English Please.” This is to bridge the communication gap. And don’t feel like it is the end of the world, should they not be able to speak English, after attempting to speak French, they would then re-pay that kindness by trying to help you out be it with hand gestures or body language.
