What I like best when I am in New York is walking around. I walk from the southern tip of Manhattan all the way up North to Grand Central Station. The beauty about this walk is really that you experience many different angles of New York, basically real life. First you see the bankers down at Wall Street (and yes, there are still many of them), then you visit the World Trade Center Site. To cheer yourself up a bit afterwards, I recommend some coffee and Centry 21 (across the street), those mad tourist shoppers (like yourself) will get you smiling again.
I usually continue through Tribecca and then stop at Chinatown (Canal Street) for some funky food... yummy.

Basically, keep walking and walking. New York is entertaining and very fun.

Another tip... try lunch at any of the crazy Chinese restaurants on Canal Street. Grab a nice big Prime Rib at night over at the Old Homestead.
