Being the avid traveller that I am, I love to discover different places, its culture, language, attraction and the sorts. I believe that is no barrier for any of my travels – except for one – food. Being a Muslim , Halal food is not readily available as much as I would like it to be. However, it has not deterred me from travelling. All you need is a little knowledge and perseverance and finding Halal food will not be a problem. I was pleasantly surprised on finding Halal@Saigon when I was preparing my trip to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – what I was more surprised of is that I was able to indulge myself in the local Vietnamese cuisine (Halal style). Hardly do you get the local cuisine of the country in Halal style. Although this eatery is not the easiest to find, the biggest landmark being the Indian Jamia Mosque (also worth a visit while you’re there as it is one of the biggest mosques in the city itself), it is definitely worth a try.

Address:
31 Dong Du Street (District 1) Behind the Sheraton hotel in Ho Chi Minh

Price:
Traditional dishes such as banh xeo for VND30,000 (US$1.68), pho or beef noodle soup for VND38,000 ($2.10), and fresh spring rolls for VND60,000 ($3.38). Crispy noodles with seafood (VND86,000 or $4.84), a medley of shrimp, squid and vegetables on top of a nest-like bed of noodles, were particularly good, as were the very tasty grilled mussels (VND38,000 or $2.10) garnished with peanuts and slivers of hot chilli. There are also traditional Malaysian dishes such as authentic roti chennai (VND30,000 or $1.68) and nasi lemak (VND60,000 or $3.79), the national dish of coconut rice and dried anchovies, served with hardboiled egg and chicken.
