While in Friedrichshafen, don't miss out on visiting the Promenade. It's basically the street that's right by the Lake Constance. There are a ton of shops, coffee shops, restaurants etc. This is really nice during the day and always good for a couple of hours of sightseeing and relaxing. There is also a little lookout tower that's worth climbing.

Anytime, this place is safe, so you can go at night as well, but I am not sure what you would be doing there at night
