Festivities
Summer in Polangui and the rest of the Bicol region usually commences in April and ends in June. Just before the season ends, there are several festivities held in the place. The different barangays welcome tourists and locals with banners of greetings coming from the government officials. Each banner indicates the dates by which the particular barangay holds its annual festival.
There are different activities held during each fiesta. Typical of Bicolano culture, you will get to dance your night away with traditional folk songs as well as electrifying modern music. You may also watch one of the Bicolano’s favorite sports – basketball.
A Taste of Bicolano Cuisine
While in Polangui, get the chance to taste the unique blend of spices and coconut milk in their dishes. Yes, these two ingredients are usually present in all menus in restaurants and are even served by locals to tourists. Your trip to the place will not be complete unless you discover how the dishes are cooked to perfection. One of the native dishes served is called the laing. Bicolanos are also famous with their binagoongang baboy.
Places to visit
There are a lot of places to visit while in Polangui. Aside from their beaches and resorts, you may get a different atmosphere while you visit their hot springs. There are a lot of them found near the area. But of course, do not ever fail to take a ride and get to Mount Mayon. The said volcano is noted for the beauty and splendor it projects to tourists with its perfectly shaped cone. The Cagsawa Ruins is also located near the area which depicts much of Bicol’s history. Located at the foreground of the famous volcano, the ruins is said to be the only structure which remained standing after the Mayon erupted and devastated the surrounding communities in 1814.
