The city of Kingston is situated in the proximity of Ontario Lake and is part of Ontario Province, Canada. The city of Kingston is also the county seat for County of Frontenac which is actually an upper tier municipality for Ontario. You will love the historical buildings which are mostly built of the locally available limestone. Due to the abundance of monuments which are built limestone, the city of Kingston has many times been called as the “Limestone City”.

The presence of Lake Ontario in the proximity of Kingston helps the temperature of this city to stay under control. Same is the reason why the city experiences moderate temperatures when compared to other locations that are not located in the proximity of Lake Ontario.

Kingston is surrounded by many water bodies which are located around the city and hence events which are related with water have become general in the city of Kingston. Some of the famous annual events which are organized every year in the city of Kingston are Kingston, the Thousand Islands Poker Run, and CORK sailing regatta. Some of the beautiful water bodies that surround the city of Kingston are Collins Bay, Garden Island, Wolfe Island, Portsmouth Olympic Harbor, Flora MacDonald Confederation Basin, and Cataraqui River. Along with these the Inner Harbor and the Anglin Bay which is located within the Inner Harbor are also part of water bodies that surround this city of Kingston.

As per the census of year 2006 the population for the metropolitan area of Kingston was around 153000 inhabitants. The metropolitan area of Kingston is also known as Kingston Census Metropolitan Area. Out of this population the city of Kingston has around 48 percent males and rest females. The growth in population for the city of Kingston hasn’t been that huge when compared to that of Ontario Province. The Province of Ontario experienced the growth of around 6 percent from the year 1996 to 2001 while during the time period the population for the city of Kingston grew by around 1.5 percent only.

A huge chunk of population for the city of Kingston is military personals as the Base of Canadian Forces is also part of Kingston itself. On the other hand another huge chunk is students due to the presence of many educational institutions in the city of Kingston.
