While winter does have some advantages (snowy duvet days, Christmas, plenty of good food and warm drinks), the endless dark nights and rainy days can get depressing.

One of the best ways to combat this is a sneaky winter holiday, to explore pastures new and of course get some of that winter sun. Aside from having something to look forward to, a sunshine break in winter is great for your mood, as well as giving you a tan that friends and colleagues will be envious of. But where to travel for some winter sun?

If you’re going to book a winter sun holiday, you may as well go all the way and organise the trip of a lifetime, fitting in everything you’ve ever wanted to do. One of the best ways to do this is to opt to stay in a luxury villa, to ensure that your time is entirely your own to eat, drink, sleep and explore as you please.

Holidaying in villas is great for privacy and quiet, meaning you can really relax and recharge your batteries. When looking for a peaceful destination with plenty of luxury villas Lanzarote is perfect for a slower pace and no-pressure atmosphere.

Stroll round the market stalls in the capital, Arrecife, picking up some bargains before heading for the freshest fish possible in one of the many seafood restaurants. The locals pride themselves on the quality of their food and produce, so try some local delicacies to really get a feel for the island.

The best thing about the area is its size; while there are plenty of villas in Lanzarote to choose from, the manageable size of the island means it doesn’t matter where you stay, because you’ll easily be able to explore. While Lanzarote is great for those looking to relax, thrill-seekers may want a little more during their holiday.

    Florida for the winter

For this, why not try Florida for plenty to do and see, and even the odd wild animal thrown in for good measure? The state is blessed with the Everglades, one of the biggest national parks in the US, so start your holiday with a guided boat tour to catch a glimpse of rare birds, reptiles and even the odd alligator. There’ll be plenty of animals to admire but for a less wild time, try the Walt Disney World Resort for rides, fireworks, and animals no scarier than Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Of course, you should take full advantage of Florida’s Sunshine State nickname by heading to the nearest beach: West Palm is one of the most popular with tourists but Panama City Beach is the unsung hero of the area, offering miles of unspoilt coastline to enjoy and snorkelling or diving for those looking to stay active.

Anyone who wants a modern and cosmopolitan resort should look no further than the Algarve to enjoy designer boutiques, the trendiest bars and plenty of fresh fish to sample. Shopaholics will want to take advantage of the upmarket shops and fabulous market stalls on offer, although it may be difficult to not blow the whole budget in one go (and remember to get gifts for friends!).

One of the best things about this area is the modern, fashionable atmosphere, and in terms of luxury villas Algarve towns don’t disappoint with their fabulous décor and up-to-the-minute gadgets, as well as a wonderfully warm welcome from the confident locals.

When searching for luxury villas Lanzarote, the Algarve and Florida all offer different but equally fabulous options for that dream winter break. From relaxing on the beach to watching an alligator go about its business to truly shopping till you drop, the three offer something to suit every taste and budget, alongside plenty of beautiful villas to stay in. In fact, the hard part may be choosing where to go in the first place.

Florida is a nice place to spend your winter vacation. My friends grandmother travels to Florida every time winter comes in Canada. Sometimes, the winter season makes most of the seniors sick that’s why they prefer the warm weather.
