Tips for RV travel

RVs, or recreational vehicles, are not the most glamorous way to travel, but they have more than enough advantages to make up for it. RVs allow you to bring your home with you on your holiday. The good things about it?

Think of all the things that you normally couldn’t have fit into a suitcase, and besides, you get to sleep on your own pillow. All you have to pay for is the gas and the food, and for the rest you are free to go wherever the map takes you. And if you are new to this, here are some tips for RV travel.

Checklists

One of the joys of RV travel is the freedom you get for both choosing your destinations, and your schedule, but it doesn’t hurt to make lists, in any case. Some lists you should stick to, like what to pack, and some are more of a guideline than anything else.

For example, it’s good to map out possible camping grounds before you go, so you don’t find yourself in a city or the side of the road with nowhere to park. Sketching out a route might not be a bad idea either, at least there will be less chances of getting lost on your way, and you can still check out anything interesting that you see on the side of the road.

Go slow

If you haven’t driven an RV before, you will see the difference between driving an RV and driving a normal car. Since the RV is much bigger than a car, it will be more difficult to manoeuver at first, but you will get used to it. The key is to go slow, and let yourself adjust gradually to the feeling of being behind the wheel of an RV.

Keep safe

Even if you are spending the night in a camping, it’s not a bad idea to take precautions anyway. Invest in a good alarm system and don’t leave any valuables out at night – even barbecue grills or other small implements can ‘walk away’.

Take your pet with you

One of the greatest advantages of RV travel is that there is no problem with taking your pets with you. Unless you own some very large pets, you will have no trouble accommodating them in the trailer.

Still, it’s good to ‘practice’ before you head out with your pet on a long journey, to let it get used to the RV. Go on short trips with your pet, and let it explore the RV and get familiar with it.
