  • Valentine Weekend Travel Ideas

February’s most expected event is finally here! This weekend, couples all over the world will celebrate their love for each other with flowers, candies, romantic dinners and cheesy Valentine cards. Valentine’s Day has long crossed the borders of USA and Western Europe and is now celebrated all over the world.

Despite the fact that Valentine’s Day going global has attracted a lot of criticism (many people would say that it’s just a marketing strategy), more and more people continue to celebrate it every year. After all, any occasion to show your affection for your partner is a good occasion, so, if you forgot or neglected to make some plans for the upcoming weekend, now it’s high time you figured out something. And since such short deadlines are prone to block one’s creativity, here are some ideas on where and how to spend the Valentine’s weekend:

    The last minute solution

It might be a little too late to book some Caribbean weekend escape now – that unless you are willing to pay a serious amount. However, after some serious online research, it would be possible to  find some decent airfares towards some romantic destination like Paris, Rome or Barcelona. You could also check the cruise line operators sites and see if they have any vacancy for the weekend. If none of these works, you just jump in the car and take your beloved one to some neighboring city that you somehow never got the chance to visit.

    The ultimate retreat

Following the simple principle that any couple will always appreciate some privacy, call your friends and check if they have any plans with that mountain cabin of theirs. Then fill you trunk with candles, grab a bottle of champagne and some of those CD’s that you secretly listen during a romanticism attack  and head for any house, cabin or villa that has nothing around within at least half a  mile (a coquette bead & breakfast outside the city borders could also do it).
Another variant of this solution is to let yourself guided by love and instinct alone and take your sweetheart for a Valentine weekend road trip. In this case, scenic drives are highly recommended: try Colorado’s ghost towns, Louisiana’s country side or the magnificent 101 highway along the Californian shore.

    The stylish approach

If you don’t feel comfortable with leaving the town, it could be even easier to arrange something for the weekend. Unless you are living in some important touristic destination, I’m sure you will be able to find some local spa center where you and your partner could spoil yourself with some hot-stone massage, aromatherapy or a plain old jacuzzi. And to make things even more interesting, you could rent a limousine to pick you up and take you to enjoy a first-class dinner to the city’s fanciest restaurant the Valentine romantic dinner might sound cliché, but it’s a cliche that always works).

    Happy Valentine’s Day!
