    Being scared is not an ideal condition for most people, but others are prepared to go out of their way for a good fright. Horror fans just love the adrenaline rush provided by a terrifying film, or the thrills you get when reading a really scary book.

    If you are a horror fan, then you can indulge in your hobby even when you’re traveling; actually, you might as well travel for a good scare. There are lots of travel destinations for horror fans, so here are a some of them that are guaranteed to terrify you.

    Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado

    Stanley Hotel is a magnificent Georgian hotel with over 130 rooms, which was the inspiration of Stephen King for his terrifying book The Shining. Some people really believe that the hotel is haunted, and some guests of the hotel claimed that they say some ghosts in the hotel’s ballroom. Care to investigate that yourself?

    Mutter Museum of Medical History, Philadelphia

    Horror fans and people who are interested in the history of medicine will both find this attraction interesting. The museum has a huge collection of skulls, some of which are quite old, plus there’s a lot of information of some rather gruesome diseases. Still, the highlight of the museum is the old medical equipment, which really is the stuff nightmares are made of.

    Truk Lagoon, Micronesia

    The atoll of Truk Lagoon, a couple of miles off the coast of New Guinea, is a great place for scuba diving, but the draw of the place is not really the marine life – it’s the sunken military equipment of the Japanese Navy.

    The seabed is littered with battleships, tanks, torpedoes  and motorcycles encrusted with coral and teeming with manta rays and other sea creatures.

    Sonora Witchcraft Market, Mexico City, Mexico

    Even if you don’t believe in magical mumbo-jumbo, the Sonora Witchcraft Market in Mexico City is one great place to indulge in some supernatural thrills. You can buy voodoo dolls and an assortment of weird things like rattlesnake blood or dried hummingbird, and even get your fortune predicted by ‘witches’.

    Manchac Swamps, Louisiana

    Swamps are the perfect setting for some horror stories (especially those involving monsters). While you won’t see any real monsters in the bayou near New Orleans, but you will surely see some jumping gators and other swamp creatures.

    This particular swamp is also purportedly haunted by the inhabitants of an entire town wiped away by a hurricane.

    Paris Catacombs, Paris, France

    Although Paris is the city of love, not of horror, there are a few places in the French capital that can make you shudder. The Paris Catacombs, for example, stretch for almost 200 kilometers under the city, but only a small section is open to the public.
