The capital of Northern Ireland has had a rather infamous reputation during The Troubles but fortunately a new era had arrived to Belfast. Life is more peaceful now, but not less eventful.
As the short video shows, Belfast is lively and fun and full of things to do. To prove you that and make the city a desirable destination for you, behold the top Belfast events in the spring of 2013.
Saint Patrick’s Festival
Where else could you celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day more stylishly than in Ireland – or Northern Ireland in our case. Between 15 – 18 March the city will turn upside down with people, parades, concerts and all that.
The highlights of the event include the carnival parade on the 17th with dancers, performers and acrobats, the fair at Saint George market with loads of family activities and the annual concert at Waterfront Hall co-organized by BBC Northern Ireland. This is a very much Irish attraction no visitor should miss!
Belfast 400
This series of events taking place from 30 March to 2 April marks the 400th anniversary of Belfast as a city. Belfast City Hall will give home to a series of family friendly and free events.
You can choose from tours, lectures, puppetry, drama, exhibitions and all sorts of performances for any age group and interest. If you have the opportunity, do not miss this weekend of culture.
13th Belfast Film Festival
The 10 day long 13th Belfast Film Festival stretching from 11 to 21 April will showcase local and international films of all kinds. From short films to documentaries and animations you can see a lot of quality films.
You can also participate in workshops and what is an even greater appeal, you can meet with some of the biggest names of the European and international film industry.
Balmoral Show
Between 15 and 17 May Balmoral Park will host the 145th Balmoral Show. It is a colorful event where you can find everything from home-grown food to cars on maybe hundreds of stands.
What I like the most is the display of animals, horses, cattle, ponies and all that, like a classic country fair you see in the movies – only it is in Belfast. There are also lots of activities and games for the children!
