Labor Day is just around the corner, so if you haven’t decided yet what you’ll do during the extended weekend, it’s time to think fast. Although a short weekend does not allow for lavish holidays filled with dozens of activities and destinations, a quick getaway on Labor Day is always a welcome break – especially it’s been some times since the last time you traveled.
So pack some clothes and maybe your favorite book and get away from daily life for a short while, and to help you here are top 5 travel ideas for Labor Day 2011.
Camping
If you haven’t had a chance to book a weekend at a resort (although there are still a lot of last minute deals to be had for Labor Day!), just skip hotel services altogether and sleep in a tent or a trailer. Camping doesn’t take much preparation, especially if you are not planning to stray far from home. If you leave on Friday after work, you can enjoy three days of camping in the woods or on the shore of a lake in the company of friends or family.
Go to the beach
If you don’t live thousands of miles from the nearest beach, here’s your chance to spend a weekend sunbathing, looking for shells, swimming or doing some water sports.
You can look for small beach houses or huts to rent to cut down costs, but it’s not impossible to still find some good hotel deals too. So give summer a last chance this year and don your bathing suit, get some beach reading and relax on the beach.
Theme parks
If you have kids, theme parks are pretty much one of the best ideas for Labor Day weekend – they surely won’t object to a day or two spent sampling thrill rides and cotton candy. But even as an adult, it’s difficult not to enjoy the carnival atmosphere of theme parks, especially if you are interested in the unusual variety – there are lots of weird theme parks around.
Take a road trip
A few days are more than enough for a short road trip, and even if you won’t have time to cross the country, you’ll surely get some miles under your belt and see some interesting places. National parks are a great place for roadtrips if you like your drives to be scenic, but any countryside does it if you enjoy driving.
