We all like to flip through travel brochures and dream of where we would travel if we only had unlimited funds in our bank account…but not many people know that some travel destinations that seem to be fit only for Hollywood stars are actually affordable for regular people as well.
Five star hotel are surely off-limits for many travelers, but there are some cheaper alternatives too in places that seem to be the favorite holiday spot of the rich and famous. So if you want to feel like royalty without emptying your wallet, here are the top 5 luxury destinations that you can actually afford!
Dubai
Dubai is one of those unbelievably luxurious metropolises that you read about in magazines, but many people don’t even check the price of a holiday in Dubai because it is legendary for its excesses and big spenders. However, Dubai has lots of activities that don’t require you to spend much at all, even if it has plenty of glitzy places that are very expensive.
You don’t actually have to buy stuff in order to feel good – you can just window shop at those elegant shopping malls, and head to the local markets (souks) for cheaper alternatives. Plus, you can get away from the commercial centers and spend some time on the lovely public beaches for free!
Cook Islands
Cook Islands have a reputation for being very exclusive, but the truth is that travelers with any kind of budget can find something to keep them entertained here. Instead of staying at a top hotel, you can find accommodation at an equally pleasant vacation houses that you can rent.
Instead of going out to restaurants, you can fish for you dinner (no kidding!) and buy fresh produce at the Saturday market, and have picnics at the beach, while you’re reading all those books you couldn’t find time for last year.
Istanbul
Istanbul can be insanely expensive, but it is a haggler’s paradise too. There are few other places on earth where you can negotiate for so many things. At the Grand Bazaar, you can haggle for the price of food, goods and even services! You can stop for tea and coffee at a small cafe for an authentic experience, see great cultural and historical landmarks like Hagia Sophia and take self-guided tours.
